Dedicated to Mario Pantani
Stage 3:
Saint Sauveur sur Tinée - Marmora 105 km / 3571 vm
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Col de Lombarde, Colle della Fauniera

With more than 3500 elevation meters this is going to be  the touchest stage ride. The south-side of the Col de Lombarde guides us from the french ski-resorts to the more silent italian Alpes. I am definitely looking forward to the small roads in the decent of the Lombarde, that i expect to more beautiful and less polluted with ski resorts.

After a good lunch in Demonte we'll to face the south-side of the Fauniera. That is an amazing giant! A climb of 25 kilometers and 1720 elevation meters! On top we find a statue in memory of Mario Pantani who first demonstrated his qualities as a climber in the giro of 1994 on the fauniera as 'il Elevantino'. In the middle of the decent on the north side of the Fauniera we expect to find a campsite in Marmora.
